Born in Rivière-du-Loup, Niva  (Nicole Vaillancourt) now lives in Ottawa. During the past few years,she has developed a passion for watercolour. Flowers inspire and stimulate her imagination. “Watercolour’s transparency and subtle expressiveness make it the ideal medium to capture the fragility and beauty of  flowers”,  she believes. Retired from the world of education, she devotes all of her time to her passion and nature is her greatest source of inspiration. 

In order to improve her knowledge of the arts in general and watercolour in particular, she attended art classes at the Université du Québec en Outaouais (UQO) and participated in several courses on watercolour and mixed media.  Taking advantage of the precious advice from reputed teachers allowed her to perfect her art.

Preserving the essential and intrinsic nature of watercolour, its transparency; exploiting colours, shadows and light to convey her emotions, those are the challenges that Nicole has given herself.  An inquisitive mind, her creative abilities and  desire to investigate and learn evermore about her medium is what motivates her constantly.
