BIOGRAPHY
Malcolm Surette

A landscape artist, Malcolm was born on L’Isle des Surette, a small Acadian community in Nova Scotia. He came to Ottawa in 1958 to begin a 37-year career in the federal Public Service. Now retired, he lives in Gatineau and devotes his time to painting.

Malcolm is a self-taught artist who has honed his oil painting techniques through study. He is inspired by nature, especially the river scenes found in Nova Scotia and rural Quebec.

He painted continuously between 1979 to 1981 and exhibited in both Ontario and Quebec before concentrating on his public service career. His travels throughout the world sharpened his appreciation for the joys of painting and in 1995 he rekindled his passion by enrolling in the Ottawa School of Art.

His finesse with contrasting colours, light and shadows was enhanced and is showcased in his majestic sweeping landscapes and river scenes.Malcolm exhibits in Ontario, Quebec, in the Maritimes, British Columbia, the United States (Maine, New York, Virginia and California) and in France. His show “Mon Acadie” was staged at the Théatre de l’Isle in Gatineau.
