Ernest Blais grew up in Northern Ontario before moving to Edmonton, Alberta. He moved to Gatineau (Aylmer sector) with his family in 2007.
In Edmonton he worked for many years exploring art with children, first as an elementary school teacher, then as an early childhood educator. He took opportunities during this time to study various aspects of drawing, painting, and sculpture for personal and professional development. He has been most influenced by abstract artist Graham Peacock from whom he studied painting at the University of Alberta.
Ernest Blais makes mostly abstract paintings in acrylic. He is inspired by the history of art, and through abstraction he seeks to interpret universal and timeless themes with a respect and sensitivity for our human past.
