Denise is a self-taught artist who lives and works in Ottawa. Denise is part of Stables studios - 155b Loretta Ave at Gladstone in the Arts Q'UAD (Cartier des arts/Arts District) of Ottawa.
Denise is constantly exploring new influences, ideas, subjects, methods and materials. Her interest is in all drawing and water-based media and at present, in integrating figurative portraiture into her abstract painting. In her work, she loves creating layers of complexity by using colour, texture, shape and patterns to entice the imagination, and challenge the viewer to explore an underlying emotion that is expressed with the stroke of a brush.
"I make art, because I love it and I love to express myself through colour, shape and texture. My goal for my paintings is to evoke emotion in the viewer and to draw them in. Bring them closer and let them see the way I view the world around me - the way I express myself.” – Denise J. Dowdy
